Student leadership provides opportunities for students to demonstrate and develop their talents, skills and interests.
The purpose of the Junior School Student Leadership is to:
- Create opportunities for student ownership in whole school decisions
- Allow students to care and encourage other students
- Allow students to feel in control of their learning
- To learn new skills in the service of others
- To feel connected with others.
Each student is encouraged to take responsibility for routine classroom duties and Year 5 students in particular are formally recognised as Leaders of Junior School. Students at all levels in the Junior School are given many opportunities to develop skills in responsible leadership.
Student Representative Council (SRC)
All classes from Year 1 to Year 4 select two students each semester to represent their class on the Student Representative Council. Year 5 students are chosen at the start of the year to lead SRC and remain in these positions for the entire year. SRC is an avenue for students to suggest ideas for improvement of the Junior School and to work together to see these achieved.
House Captains
House Captains are chosen each year through a secret ballot voting system. House Captains assist at sporting carnivals and inter-house lunchtime events. There is a high expectation placed on House Captains to be exemplary role models to younger students.
