There is so much fun to be had in Year 1 for everyone!
In Inquiry this year, Year 1 students have had many exciting opportunities to look forward to and engage to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of concepts.
In Term 1, Stay Up was a highlight for the Year 1 students as a Celebration of Learning for our inquiry into ‘Who We Are’. After a term of working together to make new friends and build a safe, caring, and happy learning environment, students had the opportunity to stay up late at school and spend time with their friends. Students enjoyed pizza and ice blocks for dinner, outdoor activities, free play, inside board games and fruit kebabs.
In Term 2, we ventured to local playgrounds and the Bunyip for our inquiry into ‘How the World Works’. Students explored the natural and man-made features of local places and had a lot of fun exploring through play.
In Term 3, as we inquired into ‘Sharing The Planet’, students reflected and acted in preparation for our excursion to Monarto Safari Park. Students collected electronic devices and accessories to donate and support the ‘They’re calling on you’ conservation program for Chimpanzees. As students reflected on how they can care for the environment, they recognised recycling as an important action.
In Term 4, Sue Harris a puppeteer visited and performed for students as we inquired into ‘How We Express Ourselves’. She introduced students to the use of light, sound, and movement to communicate and engage an audience in a traditional story. Sue supported students in the process to make their own shadow puppets. Students were risk takers, working in small groups to create a narrative and perform it using light, sound, and movement to an audience.
What inspiring and memorable learning opportunities our Year 1 students have had!
