Rethinking the Research Project
Having taught RP for the past 7 years, I always hear the same negativity and groan from every Year 11 group. As a teacher I believe it is a great opportunity for students to create, design or act. It’s a chance for them to spend time investigating and learning new knowledge and skills in an area of interest and then do something with this. Hundreds of different topics have been researched, however the most successful are those that the student was passionate about and often created or wrote about something to benefit them or someone they knew. 2022 Year 11 Research Project was no exception, our students explored various questions. Whether it was designing a personalised wakeboard or a pair of glasses to reduce the effect of blue light, a bathroom renovation for a houseboat, creating an app to support Paramedics or an app to create good habits, experimenting with photographic tools or writing an art therapy program for children, this subject encourages them to be lifelong learners. We can’t wait to see what the 2023 Year 11s come up with!
