Having a growth mindset has been a large focus in Year 3 this year.
Never giving up and ensuring that you persist or persevere through challenges, trying your best and striving to improve, and keeping in mind the saying “I can’t do that yet” have all been important concepts for the students to remember. These ideas are revisited regularly throughout the year.
Year 3 is also a year where students are developing independence and responsibility.
This is the first year where students are the ‘big buddy’ where they are buddied up with the Year 1 classes and spend time supporting them in various learning tasks as well as being good role models. Both the Year 3s and Year 1s benefit from this interaction.
The highlight of the Year 3 curriculum is the overnight camp to Aldinga. This two day camp supports the Unit of Inquiry “Where We Are In Place & Time” with a particular focus on Aboriginal culture. This camp also encourages independence and a growth mindset as it is the first overnight school camp away from school. Whilst on camp the students are immersed in a plethora of activities that allow for hands on learning and are also lot of fun.
