Only 1 week to the Unity College Agricultural Livestock Show and 2 weeks to the royal Adelaide Show! To say that things are getting busy in the Ag area is an understatement! Recent highlights include:
- Sheep & goat hooves have been trimmed.
- Merino wethers are being selected for the Adelaide Show based on weight gains and side sample fleece results.
- Dairy heifers and the dairy team are fine-tuning their show craft.
- Beef Led steers are getting used to their nose rings and the use of show canes in the ring.
- And the whole team is practising their Grand Parade techniques with more and more teams being introduced into the ring over the next 2 weeks.
Other exciting “things” happening around Unity Ag include:
- All the garden beds have been planted again with many types of vegetables and seedlings donated by Ginos Nursery, Virginia (picked up/arranged by Shawn Hicks).
- Year 7 Ag Students have been preparing Unity College’s Poster entry into the School Laying Competition at this year’s Royal Adelaide Show. There have been some great posters in production.
- Today the Year 11 & 12 Ag students have had the opportunity to attend the International LambEx (Expo) at the Adelaide Convention Centre – The world’s biggest sheep, lamb and wool forum. In particular, they were invited to attend the “Schoolies Hour of Power” where they were grouped with other school students to experience the depth and breadth of careers, roles and services associated with Australia’s sheep sector.
