- All our show team training sessions at lunchtime are busy teaching both the livestock and the students the skills needed in the show ring. During these sessions the students are learning how to correctly halter, lead and “stand up” their particular animals. The students also learn about where the animals come from and the correct way to look after them.
- All the show animals are also handled in practical lessons during the week; whether it is taking them through the crush to weigh and halter, tying them up to “break them in” or washing, drying and brushing them.
Other exciting “things” happening around Unity Ag include:
- The middle school Ag classes have been harvesting more vegetables
- Our citrus trees have had their first harvest (Mandarins and limes – and soon to be navels, lemons and tangerines)
- The Year 6 class went on a trip to see the Thornby Sheep Feedlot (Week 2)
- All the Year 5 classes had a visit from our Dairy Advocate Steve Hein as part of the Cows Create Careers Program (Week 2)
- The Year 11s traveled to Mypolonga to experience a Buffalo Dairy, an emerging agricultural trend in the region (Week 3)
