The School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI) is an Australian Government initiative to provide up to 30,000 families with no internet connection at home free access to NBN for 12 months. Under the processes developed by NBN Co, eligible families with school aged children are identified and referred by participating organisations, including Independent schools. Once approved, schools will be issued vouchers to distribute to families. Families are then able to redeem the voucher through participating services by 30 September 2023.
To be eligible, families must:
- Have a child living at home who is enrolled in an Australian school in 2023.
- Be referred by a nominating organisation, such as a school.
- Have no active NBN service.
- Live in an NBN serviceable premises which is within NBN’s cost threshold.
Independent schools have been invited to participate in the initiative through identifying eligible families, nominating the families and sharing the offer details with families. Families cannot self-nominate for this program. Please note that schools will need to obtain families’ consent for NBN Co to check their address details against the eligibility criteria through an online portal.
