  • Regional Access (15 years or older): Regional Access is a 24/7 telehealth counselling service that offers free professional phone and online counselling for anyone 15 years and older who lives or works in regional, rural or remote South Australia. Phone 14300 032 186 or click here for more.
  • Kids Helpline (5-25 years): Kids Helpline is Australia’s only free (even from a mobile), confidential 24/7 online and phone counselling service for young people aged 5 to 25. A student narrowly missed colliding with a bus last week, outside the Junior School, escaping severe injury.

We are incredibly grateful for the bus driver’s attention, slow speed and good driving which averted what was a serious near-miss.

We remind everyone – parents, staff and students – to take great care when on foot or in cars, on or around college grounds and carparks, and on Ibis Road, Owl Drive and Ridge Road, particularly now we have very little people starting at the ELC.

Please:

  1. Slow down to 10kms/hour on college grounds – it may just save your child, your student, your teacher, your friend.
  2. Be considerate and courteous:
    1. use a car park if you are parking for longer than 2 minutes
    2. be very mindful of the school buses at peak times, stay behind them and please do not ‘unsight’ the driver’ by pulling out in front of them
    3. always give way to pedestrians and buses on college grounds
  3. Obey the ‘Give Way’ sign exiting the large car park on MSS campus
  4. Give Way when entering the MSS campus from the roundabout
  5. Always give way to buses and please do not overtake them
  6. Use indicators while driving on college grounds
  7. Supervise young children and students and keep them close to you in car parks and traffic areas of the college

Safety is the whole college community’s responsibility.

LET’S TALK… BIG FEELINGS!

Calm Kid Central helps children with emotional, social or life challenges to learn the skills they need to feel calm, confident and cooperative.

Each day there is something happening down at the Ag area with most of the activities involving general animal husbandry of the show animals; like cleaning yards & filling up feeders.

Not only do the Show teams work with the animals, but students in the Ag practical classes get to wash and dry, halter and lead the animals in preparation for the shows.  The more exposure each animal gets to these practices the more settled and experienced they become and more professional the outcome at the shows that we enter.

Other exciting “things” happening around Unity Ag include:

  • All the gardens beds have been harvested and the produce distributed
  • During Grandparents Day we held an Ag Produce Stall which was very popular. We sold citrus, carrots, beetroot, pumpkins, succulents and Chubby Chicken Grain. All the proceeds will contribute to Ag resources and structures within the Ag area of the college.
  • The Year 5 Ag classes have finished their “Cow Create Careers” assessment pieces and they are on display in the JS Ag classroom and also have been entered in the National Competition.

In other news… our show pullets have just started laying! This is the first year that Unity will be entering Isa browns into the School Laying Competition at the Adelaide Show. All schools participating receive chickens from the same hatching and at the same time. So now it is up to us to give them good nutrition, clean water and housing to raise them up to be strong and healthy with incredible eggs.
